April 4, 2025 – DeSoto Central boys’ basketball guard Cam Champion Thursday signed to play next season at Pellissippi State Community College, located in Knox County, Tennessee. Champion was part of a team that finished with a 21-10 record overall, was second in Region 1-7A and reached the first round of the MHSAA 7A playoffs.

Jaguars’ coach Blake Orman praised Champion for significant contributions to his team this season, showcasing his potential and talent.

“He was somebody who was a big spark for us,” Orman said. “This year, he stepped up for us in a major way. He’s always been talented and can score at all three levels.”

Pellissippi State Community College is not a normal destination for DeSoto County basketball talent, but Orman said was offered there and everything worked out for him to go there.

“He had been talking to some other schools but it’s one of those things where it’s an opportunity for him to go somewhere, really shine and prove himself,” Orman said.

Champion was selected to the Region 1-7A all-region team and was player of the game at one of the Jaguars’ contests at the Shan Whiteside Sideline Cancer Classic at DeSoto Central.

“He was more on the attack this season instead of sitting back and letting others create,” Orman said. “He knew that he had to step up for us and he did. Cam took more of a role of taking things to the other team, being on the attack.”

Pellissippi State Community College’s Panthers are coached by Darrian Jones, finished the 2024-2025 season with a 15-17 record and played in the Region VII tournament at Memphis.
