Shooting incident leads to arrests
A total of three people are in custody after a Saturday morning shooting and resulting pursuit in Southaven.
Southaven police officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of Amber Lane, north of W.E. Ross Parkway, about 7 a.m. They were responding to a domestic violence-related shooting that had happened inside a home.
Suspects fled the residence in a vehicle as officers approached, heading toward Airways Blvd. and Church Road. In the pursuit that followed, the driver struck a Southaven Police squad car on Airways between Church and Nail roads and the suspect car was disabled by the collision.
One suspect was immediately detained and taken into custody, but two others fled that scene on foot into a wooded area east of I-55. At least one of the fleeing suspects was seen armed with a handgun, police said.
Police and deputies from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department set up a perimeter in the area north of Tanger Outlets. Southaven K-9 officers eventually found and arrested the two suspects about 8:15 a.m.
Shots were fired but no injuries were reported, according to police, and a stolen handgun was recovered from the suspect vehicle.
A portion of Airways Blvd. was closed for a time while officers and deputies were looking for the suspects.
The case remains under investigation and more information is expected to be released later about the suspect identities and specific charges.
