Repair work to cause Tuesday traffic problems
Drivers in DeSoto County need to be aware of some work that will be done on I-55 Tuesday morning, Feb. 15.
The Mississippi Department of Transportations plans to remove and possibly repair a 120-foot lighting structure on I-55, north of the Goodman Road entrance ramp.
Due to the repair work, MDOT will close at 9 a.m. the two inside lanes of I-55 northbound just south of the Goodman Road overpass to just north of the northbound entrance.
Then, at 11 a.m. MDOT will close the southbound entrance ramp from Stateline Road, the northbound cloverleaf from Goodman Road, and the northbound entrance ramp from Goodman Road.
That will mean the interstate will be closed to all northbound and southbound traffic in the area for about 20 minutes.
It is hoped the repair and reinstall of the pole can take place the same day. If that can be done, traffic will again be shut down for the installation. If not, they’ll have to come back and reinstall the pole at a later date.
Needless to say, if you normally travel in or through that area, you should plan to take another route during the mid-to-late morning hours on Tuesday, Feb. 15 to avoid a possible lengthy traffic tie-up and inconvenience.
