Olive Branch police warn of new phone scam

Olive Branch police are warning residents of a new scam attempt that tries to get money from them by using the name of a nearby police department.

The police department Tuesday posted an alert on social media saying the phone calls have been received by some residents from people claiming to be with the Hernando police department and the person being called has outstanding warrants and/or owes fines that need to be immediately paid.

The post reminds residents that law enforcement will not make these type of calls requesting money.

The warning is that if you receive a call like this, please do not provide any information to anyone requesting money or identification information.
