Joshua Bibbs, a soon-to-be graduate from Olive Branch, Mississippi, was named October Rotary Student of the Month, Northwest Mississippi Community College said in a social media post. The college said he is an accounting major, a PTK student and a Sports Information work-study student.
In the post, Bibbs credited his academic advisor, Stacian Reed, with keeping him on track. “From helping me choose the right classes to making sure I’m meeting all the requirements for graduation and transferring, he made the process a lot less stressful,” Bibbs said in the post.
Bibbs offered advice to incoming freshmen in the post. “My advice to incoming freshmen is to actually use your advisor as a resource and not wait until the last minute. Develop a good relationship, stay in communication, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to speak up if you’re unsure about something. Your advisor is there for your whole journey, but it’s up to you to take advantage of that support. The earlier you build that connection, the smoother your college experience will be,” he said.
The college urged students to meet with their advisors and plan for future success in the same post.
