Methodist Le Bonheur hospitals report COVID patient numbers

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLBH), of which Methodist Olive Branch Hospital is a part, this week offered the following information regarding patient numvers at its hospitals being treated for COVID-19.

According to MLBH, recent patients who have died from coronavirus range in age from the 30’s through the 60’s. More deaths are being observed among younger patients and were patients without serious underlying health conditions and all of them were unvaccinated.

As of Friday morning, MLBH had 191 hospitalized COVID-19 patients in its hospitals, which is a decrease in hospitalizations.

Eighty-five percent of hospitalized COVID-19 patients are unvaccinated. Those in hospital who were vaccinated had serious health conditions or are immunocompromised.

MLBH also said cancer patients are frequently represented among vaccinated COVID inpatients. They quoted a recent research study published in the Annals of Oncology, where nearly half of cancer patients developed no antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein after their first dose of vaccine.
