McIngvale Road rerouting set to start

Traffic in Hernando is about to take a detour as a major road project is nearing completion.

The McIngvale Road Realignment Project will include the closing of McIngvale Road and all access points between Classic Drive South and the access road south of Hernando Hills Elementary School. That will occur starting May 21.

What will happen is that both north and south bound traffic on McIngvale Road will utilize the newly constructed section of McIngvale Road and the school access road.

Direct access to McIngvale Road from Clubhouse Drive and Classic Drive South will be closed.  Local residential traffic will use Classic Drive North to access McIngvale Road and continue accordingly.

Realignment of McIngvale Road is part of the road work that also includes the new McIngvale Road interchange at I-269.  It will provide a new entrance point into the city off the interstate system surrounding Hernando, which officials believe may provide some relief from the traffic congestion around I-55 at the Commerce Street exit.
