People in the Lewisburg area of DeSoto County can look forward to a new community park in the neighborhood.

More than three acres of land on Craft Road across from the Lewisburg schools have been earmarked by the county for the park, which is now in the design phase.

“People can buy a house anywhere,” Supervisors board president MIchael Lee said. “They make DeSoto County their home because of the quality of life here. The park will provide a safe and healthy place for kids and families to play, gather, and connect.”

Look for a paved parking area, restrooms, a gazebo with picnic tables, walking trail and an enclosed and handicapped-accessible covered playground within the park facility.

The park will also connect to the Lewisburg sidewalk project now under construction by way of its walking trail. The sidewalk is part of the Craft Road widening project and will also connect to sidewalks in the Hawks Crossing development.

The developer of Hawks Crossing donated the land for the park and a donation from the anti-annexation group “Fight for DeSoto” is paying for the design fees.

Construction will start on the park this summer.
