The first meeting of DeSoto Civic Garden Club was held on September 12 at Bolin Grove Farms in Hernando. The guest speaker was Walter Roop who is a third-generation owner and developer of this 40 acre family farm.

Mr. Roop’s presentation included proper techniques for planting, focusing on fruit trees. This farm includes 5 types of apple trees, 4 types of berries, pumpkins and honey and he intends to expand by adding more varieties. Mr. Roop credits his passion and destiny to his grandfather who he greatly admired, teaching him great work ethics.

Bolin Grove Farms offers an ideal venue for outdoor events and includes the use of a farmhouse, lake, and event center. It is open to the public May – August.

The DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Garden Clubs of Mississippi Inc., Hills and Delta District.
