Nettie Moore, Children’s Activities Director, at the M. R. Davis Public Library in Southaven, began the first of her spring programs for children which featured one of many gardening activities. The first of those concerned the planting of different kinds of flower and herb seeds such as marigold plants and mint that was donated by the library, and egg shells that were donated by the DeSoto Civic Garden Club.

Potting soil was then placed in each of the egg shells, and the plants of marigolds and mint were added.

The reason for using egg shells as a container is ecological for the environment.  Over time, the shells will decompose as they grow in the children’s flowerbeds.

Assisting Nettie with this project are DeSoto Civic Garden Club members: Emilie Michael, Amye Kelly, Toni Thompson, Berta Crellin and Jane Borgognoni.

DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc., Hills and Delta District.
