Garden club awards at national, regional, state level

May 30, 2025 – DeSoto Civic Garden Club (DCGC) members have been very involved during the spring of 2025 with the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. federated organizations.

At the National Garden Clubs convention, which was held in Charleston, South Carolina May 19-23, DeSoto Civic Garden Club member Amye Kelly, received for the club a first place National Award for a Small Standard Flower Show.

During the Deep South convention held in March at Valdosta, Georgia, the DCGC received an award in a Class 1 Competition A—1 National Garden Club Flower Show and a cash award of $200.

In addition to state awards in Yearbook, Press Book, and three additional flower show awards, Amye Kelly presented her design of a floral arrangement at the state convention to honor Brenda Moore, President of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. This was a ‘Creative Design’ and was composed of plant material; Heliconcas and Anthurium ‘Obake’, copper tubing in a Catalpa container.

Another event at the state annual convention held April 8-9 was the presentation of the 2025 Officers of the Mississippi Flower Judges Council. DCGC has two members to serve as officers: Corresponding Secretary, Jane Borgognoni (second from left) and President, Amye Kelly (seventh from left).

The DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc.
