The political guessing game is about to begin about what a former legislator and gubernatorial candidate will do in 2023.

Robert Foster, the former state representative from Hernando and 2019 Republican candidate for governor, Monday issued a release to say he will make a special announcement this week about his 2023 plans.

“In the last three years, we have witnessed how important it is that we have conservative leaders in office who will put America, and our God-given rights, first, and Mississippi is no different,” Foster said in the release. “This week we will be making a very special announcement regarding that and my plans for 2023.”

In 2019, Foster ran for governor where he garnered national attention for his conservative viewpoints that helped him win the state’s third largest county and receive nearly 20 percent of the vote statewide with little campaign funds.

It was during the campaign that Foster’s decision to not allow a female reporter travel alone with him in his pickup truck as he ran for governor in 2019 drew both support and opposition for his conservative and morality stance. Many believed that strong position helped him gain votes in the Republican primary.

In his one term in the House of Representatives, Foster was named as one of the “Top 35 and Under Politicians and Politicos in Mississippi” by the Clarion Ledger.

Albeit a rookie legislator, the owner of the Cedar Hill Farm agri-tourism attraction near Hernando held top scores by both BIPEC (Business and  Industry Political Education Committee) and Americans for Prosperity (AFP) for his strong business-friendly and  limited-government voting record. He was also named a “Champion of Freedom” from AFP in 2016 and 2017.

In 2016 and 2017, The American Conservative Union Foundation named Robert as one of the top three Conservative Legislators in Mississippi by awarding him with their “Award for Conservative Excellence.” In 2018 they awarded him with their “Award for Conservative Achievement.”

In the news release, Foster did not state how or when he would make his “special announcement,” pointing to his Facebook, Twitter and Truth Social accounts.
