Flag to fly at half-staff Sunday
You might see the American flag flying at half-staff on Sunday, Oct. 3. It is in respect to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, which will be observed that day, a part of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.
Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in 1992 to lead an effort to remember America’s fallen firefighters.
The tax-exempt and nonprofit foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and help their families and coworkers.
The 40th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be held on Sunday to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty. The American flag is to be flown at half-staff on Sunday in observance of the service.
