Ex-postal worker sentenced for attack on postmaster

A former postal worker accused of stabbing the Hernando postmaster with a screwdriver last year has been sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was announced late last week.

Tamekia Scott of Southaven was accused of stabbing the postmaster several times in the Hernando post office in July 2021 as part of a physical altercation. The postmaster was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto for treatment of the stab wounds.

Scott was detained by other postal employees as she tried to leave into a back parking lot until police officers arrived and made the arrest. Police at the time reported the stab wounds were non-life threatening.
