DeSoto ranked among best counties in Mississippi
A new survey indicates what many who live in DeSoto County already know: we live in one of the places to reside in Mississippi.
Southern United States counties continued to experience growth, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, particularly in Florida, where 96 percent of its 67 counties gained new residents. Meanwhile, counties in the Midwest and Northeast continued to lose population, but at slower rates than the year before.
The website Stacker compiled a list of the best counties to live in Mississippi using rankings from Niche. Niche ranks counties by various factors including public schools, educational attainment, cost of living, and housing.
Of the top 30 counties in Mississippi, DeSoto County was ranked eighth in the survey. The ranking was for the county’s overall national ranking at number 255, median household income of $79,666 and median home value of $227,600 with 76 percent of the population owning their home. The median rent in DeSoto County is $1,252.
