FEMA: Mississippi residents in 36 counties may qualify for disaster aid
Mississippi residents in 36 counties, including DeSoto County, affected by the Jan. 23-27 winter storms (DR-4899) may be eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said.
FEMA said residents can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or by using the free FEMA app.
FEMA listed basic eligibility requirements as U.S. citizenship or qualified immigration status; identity verification such as a Social Security number or other accepted documents; proof of home ownership or occupancy; and unmet needs not covered by insurance.
FEMA urged residents whose homes or property were affected to apply as soon as possible to determine whether they qualify for assistance.
