Child seriously injured after hit and run accident while riding bike in Southaven
Southaven Police Department is asking for the public’s help after a nine-year-old child was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon in Southaven.
According to police, the incident happened on May 16, 2026, at approximately 2:57 p.m. in the area of Chesterfield Drive and Farmington North. Investigators said the child was riding a small minibike when the minibike was struck by a vehicle that continued southbound on Chesterfield Drive without stopping.
Authorities described the suspect vehicle as a black Mercedes, possibly an S550 model, with a black Mississippi license plate and tinted windows. Police said the vehicle should have damage to the front driver’s side bumper area.
The child was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. Police said the last update they received indicated the child was in stable condition.
Major Eric Ainsworth of the Southaven Police Department’s Investigative Services and Training Division said anyone who may know the owner of the vehicle, or anyone who spots the car, is urged to contact investigators immediately.
