The DeSoto Civic Garden Club met Feb. 4, at the M.R. Davis Library in Southaven. Featured speaker was David Glover, the Bartlett Bee Whisperer, who was introduced by Elaine White, program leader.
David acknowledged that because of a twist of fate in 2008 he made a sudden career change which led him to find his new passion in Apiculture, the science and art of raising or maintaining colonies of bees and their hives. David gave a very interesting PowerPoint presentation on the importance of rescuing honeybees that have built hives in unfortunate locations.
Why rescue bees, you might ask? David explained, no bees… no pollination, no pollination…no food. He removes bees from just about anywhere and they are put back into our agriculture system where they can pollinate our food.
If you are looking for a new hobby and beekeeping sparks your interest, or have a hive of bees you need removed, you can find and message David on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Search for the Bartlett Bee Whisperer.
Immediately following the presentation, the club conducted monthly business, had refreshments and adjourned.
The DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi Inc., Hills and Delta District.
