Barrett Distribution Center ribbon-cutting set for Wednesday

Area chambers of commerce and the DeSoto County Economic Development Council are hosting a ribbon-cutting for a new Barrett Distribution Center facility in Olive Branch. The center opened last August, according to a news release issued by the company.

The 330,000 square foot facility in Olive Branch complements Barrett’s existing Memphis-based campus environment, the company said. The opening of the Olive Branch site further expands the company’s nationwide footprint and is designed to support market demand for omni-channel supply chain services.

“Coming out of the pandemic, online sales continue to grow, and retail B2B channels show rapid signs of returning to normal,” said Scott Hothem, Barrett’s SVP of Customer Solutions. “Barrett has been incredibly successful in the Memphis region, and the new Olive Branch location will continue to allow our customers to reach the majority of the US population base in one to three days via ground transportation.”

According to the news release, the Olive Branch facility will be supported by robust warehouse management and automation technology, including existing connectivity to most major commerce platforms, marketplaces, and transportation carriers. In today’s global marketplace, fast access to new markets is critical. Business success depends on quick access to customers and partners, and based on being recognized by the Airports Council International as the World’s Busiest Air Cargo Airport in the world, Memphis stands out as a premier, strategic fulfillment location.

“In our 80 years of operations, we have rarely had a situation where Barrett has not been able to accommodate a customer that is experiencing explosive growth,” Hothem said. “In fact, this is how we have grown our company, through strategically expanding our national footprint as our customers have expanded their business. The new Olive Branch facility supports our expansion efforts.”

Wednesday morning’s ribbon-cutting ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. at the center site, 8145 Nail Road in Olive Branch.
