Addiction clinic opens in Southaven

The CARE Clinic for drug addiction has opened a new clinic, located in Southaven at 8829 Centre Street, south of Stateline Road, in Southaven. It is called DeSoto Wellness Clinic.

It’s the second CARE Clinic for addictions and mental health issues. CARE Clinic also has a location in Grenada, said Medical Director Dr. Cedric Edwards.

“We are going to be treating people with counseling and therapy for addiction and mental conditions such as depression and that kind of stuff,” said Dr. Edwards. “As well,  we will also have group counseling, family counseling, and marriage counseling. We will be using counseling and therapy without any kind of medication to treat patients.”

Edwards pointed out the CARE Clinic will also locate upstairs where medications will be used to treat patients for drug addictions and mental health issues.

“It’s been a real blessing  for me to see people at rock bottom and be able to see a huge difference,” Edwards said. “For me personally it’s been about reaching people where they are and for them to become productive citizens.”

Mental health is one of the most important aspects in the lives of people. It dictates the way we think, how we act, and essentially shapes our lives. Mental illnesses and mental health disorders can negatively affect a person’s mood, thinking habits, and behavior.

Disorders include anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, post traumatic stress disorders, or PTSD, and Schizophrenia.

Edwards said the clinic will involve treating those from age 18 and up.
