HYPE organizers said their young professionals series will resume in August with an after-hours networking event. The group said additional details will be released next week.

The Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce said Debbie Mendenhall discussed tourism’s economic impact and opportunities at the Landers Center during its Grits & Government event, and thanked attendees and a local caterer.

The organization said it enjoyed hosting a BYI intern this summer, praising Elise’s commitment and calling a recent video a reminder that attention to detail matters.

The Southaven Chamber Foundation will recognize its Bridge Academy Class of 2026 at a Quarterly Luncheon Aug. 19, with DeSoto County Schools Superintendent Cory Uselton as keynote, the foundation said.

The chamber said it will host a 9:30 a.m. celebration Friday at its office to welcome Socialite Rentals LLC as a new member. The chamber said the company offers marquee letters and numbers, photo booths, balloon arches and backdrops.

Sweet Fizz, a new beverage shop in Hernando, will open Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m., the business said.

The Southaven Fire Department announced the promotion of Jon Carrington to lieutenant. The department said he joined nearly 11 years ago and will be assigned to Station 3 on C-Shift.
