Winter weather update from MEMA
One additional weather-related death has been reported to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). It happened in Marshall County. This brings the state’s total death toll to 12 since Jan. 14 due to winter weather.
Since Jan. 14, 29 injuries and 12 fatalities have been reported to MEMA. Those reports came from the following counties:
- Chickasaw – 2 fatalities
- Grenada – 2 injuries
- Humphreys – 1 fatality
- Leflore – 2 fatalities
- Marshall – 1 fatality, 1 injury
- Panola – 2 fatalities, 6 injuries
- Rankin – 1 fatality, 17 injuries
- Sharkey – 1 fatality
- Sunflower – 1 fatality
- Washington – 1 fatality, 3 injuries
Locals opened dozens of warming shelters. As requests came in from locals for those shelters and other needs MEMA worked tirelessly to fulfill them. Since January 14th the following commodities were sent to counties from MEMA:
- 125 cots
- 125 blankets
- 38,304 bottles of water
