Signing Friday for COVID-19 death benefits bill

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves will hold a ceremonial signing for House Bill 779, which ensures that families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who pass away due to contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty receive full state death benefits.

The ceremony will be held at the Walter Sillers Building, 18th floor Press Room, in Jackson, beginning at 11 a.m.  

Joining Gov. Reeves will be Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan, who is also the president of the Mississippi Sheriff’s Association, along with Mississippi State Fire Academy Executive Director Terry Wages.  

The bill was unanimously passed in both the House and in the Senate.
