Mississippi State Auditor’s Office receives “exceptionally clean” review from legislative audit
JACKSON, Miss. — State Auditor Shad White announced Thursday that the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor has passed an independent audit commissioned by the Mississippi Legislature’s PEER Committee.
The review was conducted by EisenRamper LLP, a private CPA firm based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Lawmakers appropriated funds last year to hire an outside auditor to examine the agency’s operations.
“While we did not ask for the audit, I welcomed it,” White said. “I’m pleased to report the audit came back so clean you could eat your supper off of it.”
White credited his staff for the strong results, noting that the office requested and received $1 million less from the state’s general fund last year while maintaining full operational effectiveness.
“I really haven’t seen many audits this clean in my time on the job,” White said. “The credit goes to the men and women who work at the Auditor’s Office.”
The audit’s findings reinforce the agency’s claims of efficient spending and strong internal controls as lawmakers continue evaluating state agency performance.
