Mississippi Legislature will return to the Capitol on Wednesday

Both chambers of the Legislature will convene at the Capitol on Wednesday, but it’s unclear what lawmakers will do.

House leadership informed members on Tuesday that they will meet Wednesday, and the Senate’s schedule on the Legislature’s website also notes that it will meet Wednesday afternoon.

Lawmakers finished most of their work earlier this month for the three-month legislative session, but they passed a measure that gave them the option to return to the Capitol on April 15 to override any vetoes from Gov. Tate Reeves.

The governor on Monday night vetoed five bills. Overriding any veto takes a two-thirds vote in both chambers.

House Speaker Jason White also said earlier this month that he anticipates Reeves calling lawmakers into a special session to take up legislation to enhance the regulation of pharmacy benefit managers.
