Gas average prices now past five dollars a gallon
For the first time ever, American retail gasoline prices have reached the $5.00 per gallon mark, according to the American Automobile Association.
AAA reports the average for regular unleaded gasoline Saturday reached a new record high of $5.004 a gallon. That’s nearly two dollars more than this time last year and nearly 60 cents more than just month ago.
What you have to pay remains tough on the pocketbook but average prices in the South remain among the lowest in the United States, according to AAA.
Mississippi’s average gas price, according to AAA reached another high of $4.521 a gallon. In DeSoto County, drivers are averaging $4.498 a gallon.
Following is the comparison of national averages to Mississippi averages.
Since last Thursday, June 2, these 10 states have seen the largest increases in their averages: Michigan (+41 cents), Delaware (+37 cents), Maryland (+36 cents), Colorado (+36 cents), Kansas (+34 cents), Indiana (+33 cents), West Virginia (+33 cents), Minnesota (+33 cents), Iowa (+32 cents) and Wisconsin (+31 cents).
