Excessive heat warning for several counties as head index approaches 115 degrees
An excessive heat warning remains in place for several North MS counties and the Delta as the heat index will approach 115 degrees today, according to a release from the National Weather Service.
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 115 are present across the region.
The National Weather Service released the following information about the heat and warnings about how best to handle it.
* WHERE…In Arkansas, Phillips County. In Mississippi, Calhoun,
Coahoma, Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, and
Yalobusha Counties.
* WHEN…Until 7 PM CDT this evening.
* IMPACTS…Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
The NWS suggests residents in these areas to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
