COVID-19 cases increasing, Dobbs provides state update

Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs cautions that the COVID-19 pandemic “is not over,” as the state health department Monday released a three-minute YouTube video to update the state on the rising number of virus cases and hospitalizations.

During the period of June 24-26, there were 2,677 new cases of coronavirus reported in Mississippi and five new deaths. As Dobbs indicates in the video, northwest Mississippi, including DeSoto County, is among the areas where incidences of coronavirus have increased.

The coronavirus data monitoring site COVID Act Now recently returned DeSoto County to a high-risk community level for contracting coronavirus. The ranking is based on data collected from the Centers for Disease Control.
