Will Thompson Named MACCC Men’s Goalkeeper of the Week
First weekly award for Northwest men’s soccer
For the first time in his young collegiate career, Northwest freshman Will Thompson has earned MACCC Men’s Goalkeeper of the Week accolades, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.
Thompson’s defense helped Northwest to a three-match winning streak, helping the Rangers improve to 4-3 in conference play and remain within striking distance of the MACCC playoff picture.
In two shutout wins against East Mississippi and Holmes last week, Thompson collected 14 saves. For the season, the Hernando native has compiled 82 saves for an .828 save percentage.
Thompson is the first Northwest men’s goalkeeper to earn MACCC Goalkeeper of the Week accolades since April 20, 2021, when Blaine Galbraith earned the award for his record-setting 23-save performance in a 1-1 road draw at East Central.
Northwest (4-7, 4-3 MACCC) will return to action on Friday, October 13 against East Central. The match is scheduled for a 3 P.M. start with live coverage available on Ranger TV.
