Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams and the Board of Aldermen recognized Canine Companions and Lief the Fifth during a Board of Aldermen meeting, according to a post from the City of Olive Branch. Lief and his handler received a proclamation honoring the organization’s work throughout the Mid-South.
The recognition came during National Service Dog Month. Canine Companions provides service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities, as well as facility dogs for professionals working in health care, criminal justice and educational settings, the city said.
The City of Olive Branch post said 70 million Americans live with a disability, while only a small fraction — 16,000 people — benefit from the assistance of task-trained service dogs.
The proclamation recognized the work of Canine Companions and the organization’s service in the Mid-South through its assistance and facility-dog programs.
