Wednesday sports: Lewisburg gets baseball, softball wins

Lewisburg 7, Grenada 3
Lewisburg erupted for five runs in the fifth inning of their ninth win of the season. Grenada had taken a 3-2 lead into the Patriots’ half of the frame. Starting pitcher Gunner Gilmore scored two runs and collected two hits to lead the Lewisburg offense. Lewisburg used seven pitchers in the non-region contest with Caleb Staggs credited with the victory, despite allowing two runs on three hits.
South Panola 14, DeSoto Central 7
South Panola rallied from a 6-1 deficit after four innings by scoring six times in each of the fifth and sixth innings to defeat the Jaguars. The Tigers pounded out 15 hits in the win. For DeSoto Central, Conner Ferguson scored three times and had two hits. Caiden Bullard and Tucker Rudd also had a pair of hits in the loss, with Bullard stroking a pair of doubles. Avery Hutson took the mound loss in relief with six earned runs allowed. Aiden Steht started for DeSoto Central and pitched four innings, striking out five but allowing five earned hits and six hits.

Lewisburg 16, Horn Lake 0 (3 innings)
Lewisburg scored 14 runs in the first inning to claim its first Region 1-7A victory in a game called in the third inning by the run rule.
Five different Lady Patriots came across home plate twice in the contest and three Lewisburg players collected a pair of hits. The offense included a home run by Bailee Davis in the first inning outburst. Emma Abrams picked up the pitching victory with just one hit that she allowed.
