Wednesday sports: Spring break baseball, softball highlights

Wednesday, March 13

Prep baseball 

Chiles, Fla. 9, Lewisburg 2  

Note: Chiles broke the game open with six runs in the sixth inning. Grant Walendzik hit a solo homer for the Patriots. Caleb Staggs struck out five and gave up two earned runs to be tagged with the loss in 3.2 innings pitched. Lewisburg’s record is now 10-2.  

South Panola 6, Northpoint Christian 2

Note: South Panola scored three runs in the first two innings and added three more in the last two innings, all despite being held to just two hits in the victory. Northpoint scored solo runs in the first and sixth innings. KL Farr and Seth Giamportone each had two hits for the Trojans to lead their offense. Northpoint starting pitcher Jace Robinson allowed four earned runs in taking the mound loss while striking out three and allowing four walks over five innings.  

Heritage Academy 3, Northpoint Christian 0 

Note: Northpoint was held to two hits and committed four errors in the loss.  Seth Giamportone and Jace Robinson each got singles in the game.  Losing pitcher KL Farr struck out seven but allowed three runs (one earned) and five hits.  

Lake Cormorant 4, Pontotoc 3

A Lake Cormorant run in the fourth inning broke a 3-3 tie and became the winning run against the Warriors. Hayden Streiber had two hits for the Gators as part of a five-hit attack. Winning pitcher Michael Callahan struck out three for Lake Cormorant.  

DeSoto Central 14, Tuscaloosa Academy, Ala. 4

Note: Jack Willis collected five hits for the Jaguars in the victory, all singles.  DeSoto Central scored at least one run in each of the six innings played, including a four-run fourth inning. Caiden Bullard tripled among three hits, scored twice and picked up two runs-batted-in. Connor Simpson and Tanner Bridgewater split the game on the mound and each struck out five. 

Center Hill 3, Madison Ridgeland Academy 2

Note: Avery Rodgers and Kyle Erwin each had two hits for the Mustangs, while winning pitcher Houston Green struck out six in a complete game victory. Center Hill made a 3-0 lead after two innings hold up for the remainder of the contest. 

Grenada 15, Horn Lake 5 (5 innings)

Note: Marvin Matthews Jr. doubled and drove in a run for the Eagles. Grenada scored seven runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.  . 

Bayou Academy 16, Horn Lake 4 (6 innings)

Note: Bayou Academy won the game with seven runs in the top of the sixth innings. The Eagles were held to only two hits, including a double from Jacob Bible, and committed seven errors.  

Prep softball

Lewisburg 2, Bellaire, Texas 0 

Note: Anna Etter’s triple in the bottom of the seventh inning provided the only runs of the game for Lewisburg in the early morning victory.  Ella Abrams struck out 11 in pitching the complete game effort at Gulf Shores, Ala.
