Horn Lake boys’ basketball coach Chico Potts is about to start his second season as head coach of the Eagles, but knows he will have one more game to coach in at the end of the season, regardless of how it turns out.

The Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) on Tuesday, Nov. 7, announced its coaches for the North-South All-Star Games and Potts was named to join Rolley Tipler of Pontotoc on the 5A-6A-7A North All-Star team.  The rosters will be announced on Jan. 8, according to the MAC website.

The game will be played March 9 at Mississippi College in Clinton.

Potts took Horn Lake to the state basketball tournament in his first season with the program last season, a season highlighted by Dimp Pernell’s game-winning shot in the quarterfinals to defeat Starkville 43-42 at Mississippi Valley State University. The Eagles were eliminated in the state semifinals Mississippi Coliseum by Northwest Rankin 58-46.Potts came to Horn Lake before last season after coaching at Gentry. The Delta State University Hall of Fame inductee was also an assistant coach at Greenville-Weston and at Tupelo, an assistant at Mississippi Valley State (MVSU) and was the Delta Devils’ head coach before returning to his high school alma mater to take over the boys’ basketball program at the Indianola school with Gentry.
