The Northpoint Christian School girls’ soccer team is off to a good start for the fall season after Thursday’s 10-0 victory over Sacred Heart. The Lady Trojans enter the weekend with a 2-0 record, having beaten Millington (Tenn.) Central earlier in the week 9-2.

The dominating victory against Sacred Heart took only one half to play with the mercy rule into effect at halftime. Anna Claire Dowdy had little to do as her teammates kept the ball from coming her way. Meanwhile Lady Trojan forwards peppered the Sacred Heart net with a second-straight three-goal hat trick from Lane Purdy, a three-goal hat trick from Hayden Moneymaker, plus goals from Moriah Tims, Clare Chambliss, Olivia Court, and Madison Wrigley.

Here are post-game comments from Northpoint coach Ethan McClure:

On team makeup for fall season: “We’re really excited about this young group of girls. We have a lot of starters come back from last year. They’ve worked hard all summer and really bought into what we’re trying to accomplish this year and have really progressed and I’m really looking forward to the year.”

On Lane Purdy, who led Northpoint in scoring in both matches during the week: “Lane Purdy is a five-year starter, she’s been playing for me since she was an eighth grader. She’s going to bring her leadership. She’s got six goals in two games so she’ll bring scoring goals to us this year, too.”

On goalkeeper Anna Claire Dowdy, who has allowed just two goals during two games: “Anna Claire Dowdy is a really solid keeper for a young girl as she’s only a freshman. She’s improved a lot over the past few years. She’s young and she’s only going to keep getting better.”

On district season ahead:  “The district is going to be tough, as always, but I think we’re going to be ready to compete, see what we’re made of and see where we’ll go this year.”
