Apr 10, 2025- The Northpoint Christian softball team has relied on stingy defense and strong pitching in putting together a 13-3 record this spring. When the Lady Trojans win, it usually is after scoring a bunch of runs and putting a bunch of “goose eggs” on the opponents’ side of the scoreboard.
The combination of offense, defense and pitching was well on display Thursday in Northpoint’s 16-1 thrashing of Harding Academy on Senior Night for Katy Bobo, Trinity Garvin and Reagan Adams.
In the 13 victories posted by the Lady Trojans, eight have been of the shutout variety, and until Harding scored a run in the fourth inning Thursday, Northpoint had won four straight without allowing a run.
Thursday, Hannah Bostain and Katy Bobo each tripled and each scored three times. Trinity Garvin with four hits, Garvin, Bobo and Faith Ryan each drove in three RBIs.
Bobo is a player who contributes in a number of ways, Ferguson said.
“She moves runners,” Ferguson said. “She’s very, very smart, a very good base runner, and a very good outfielder.”
Meanwhile in the circle, Garvin pitched four innings, gave up one run and struck out seven. Northpoint opened the game with 11 runs in the first inning, pretty much putting the contest out of reaching for the visiting Lady Lions.
Ferguson describes her team’s pitching as dynamic and is complimented by strong defensive play.
“Defensively, people have been making plays,” Ferguson said. “They’ve been finding ways to play behind each other. Again, our pitching is really what has been keeping us together.”
Senior Trinity Garvin highlighted the pitching game Thursday, allowing the one run but striking out seven Lady Lions in the four-inning victory.
“She’s an amazing pitcher,” Ferguson said about Garvin. “Offensively she does a great job for us as well,” noted by Garvin’s four hits at the plate, including a double, Thursday against Harding.
