Northpoint Christian School’s basketball teams hosted counterparts from Lausanne Collegiate Saturday afternoon in a pair of games postponed from earlier in the year due to snow.

The Trojans and Lady Trojans fell to Lausanne in both games. The boys lost to the Lynx 53-44 after the Lady Trojans dropped a 39-36 contest to the Lady Lynx.

In the boys’ game, Northpoint led for much of the opening quarter until a long three-point shot just before the quarter’s end gave Lausanne a 12-11 lead.  The Lynx extended the lead to 21-15 with less than four minutes before halftime before the Trojans got within 24-20 at intermission.

Northpoint was able to get within 32-30 after three quarters after trailing by as much as five points during the opening eight minutes of play.  But the Lynx was able to extend the margin to 41-34 with under four minutes remaining and claimed the nine-point victory.

Northpoint was led by Paxton Huxford with 17 points and Ayden Kelly with 14 points. After finding the range for six points in the first half, Huxford added 11 more in the second half, including 5-of-6 at the free throw line.  Nine of Kelly’s 14 points also came in the second half.  Andrew Ford led Lausanne with 17.

In the girls’ game, Northpoint took a 7-3 lead in the first period of play but Lausanne came back to get within 9-8 early in the second quarter.  The Lady Lynx took over control of the game later in the quarter and had a 14-10 advantage with just over a minute left before halftime. A last-second post-up layup just as the half came to an end gave Lausanne a 16-12 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, Lausanne held a 26-20 lead at one point and claimed a 30-26 edge going into the final eight minutes.  The Lady Trojans were able to claw back into the defensive struggle in the fourth quarter and had a 36-35 lead with three minutes left.

But that is where the scoreboard froze for Northpoint, as Lausanne scored the final four points of the game for the victory.

Northpoint was led by Nailah Herrera with eight points. Ava Hill led the Lynx with 11 points to lead all scorers.
