Region 1-6A basketball tournament pairings released
The “Journey to Jackson” for MHSAA 6A basketball teams in Region 1 will start on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Grenada High School. The pairings for both boys and girls tournaments were determined as the regular season was ending on Saturday.
Olive Branch and Saltillo girls will open the tournament at 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. That will be followed by the Lake Cormorant boys and South Panola at 5:30 p.m. The girls’ bracket will continue at 7 p.m. when Lake Cormorant girls take on Grenada, followed at 8:30 p.m. with Grenada boys against Saltillo.
Center Hill boys and girls, along with the Olive Branch boys and South Panola girls, are the top two seeds in the tournament and will wait until Thursday for their first games.
The South Panola girls take the floor at 4 p.m. to play the Grenada/Lake Cormorant winner. That game will be followed by the Olive Branch boys facing either Grenada or Saltillo at 5:30 p.m.
Center Hill takes the floor, starting at 7 p.m. with the Lady Mustangs playing either Olive Branch or Saltillo, followed by the Mustangs playing Lake Cormorant or South Panola at 8:30 p.m.
On Friday, consolation games will be played at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and the championship games will take place at 7 and 8:30 p.m.
The results of Friday’s games will have importance to determine seeding into the state championship playoffs.
