Northwest releases revised football schedule

After weeks of anticipation, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference has unveiled the revised 2020 football schedule for all programs, including Northwest.

Facing a six-game division-only slate, Northwest will open the season on Thursday, October 1 at 7 p.m. against Mississippi Delta. The Rangers will have a bye week before resuming the regular season against Itawamba on October 15.

Northwest will travel to Northeast on October 22 for the first road test of the season, followed by a home date with Coahoma on October 29. The schedule will then conclude with road contests at Mississippi Delta on Saturday, November 7 and a rare 3 p.m. kickoff at Holmes on Thursday, November 12.

Not featured on this season’s slate is East Mississippi, who opted out of playing the fall season last month. The Rangers defeated the Lions in Scooba last year, 56-36.

Northwest finished 8-3 overall last season and won the north division title with a 4-2 record, losing only to Holmes and Itawamba. The Rangers ultimately fell to eventual national champion Mississippi Gulf Coast by four points in the MACJC Championship.

Head coach Benjy Parker enters his fifth season in command, fielding a 33-11 overall record. The former Northwest and Division I assistant was named MACJC North Division Coach of the Year in 2017 and ranks third all-time in the Rangers’ record books in career victories, behind Ricky Woods (35) and Bobby Franklin (201).

All games will be broadcasted live on nwccrangers.com/watch, with Jeremy Kennedy and John Luke McCord returning for the duo’s fourth season in the booth. All games will also feature live stats, which will also be available on nwccrangers.com.
