Jaguars, Mustangs among Friday football winners

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. – The Center Hill Mustangs used a strong second-half surge to defeat the rival Olive Branch Conquistadors 32-15 in a Region 1-6A matchup Friday night.
The victory was Center Hill’s fourth consecutive win in the series, giving the Mustangs a 4-3 lead all-time.
Center Hill (4-4, 1-2) and Olive Branch (1-7, 0-3) traded 31-yard field goals in the first quarter, with Center Hill’s Aiden Anewalt striking first followed by Olive Branch’s Jake Anderson, for a 3-3 tie.
The Conquistadors took a 9-3 lead with 4:01 left in the second quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Landon Rombaugh to Brandon Perry.
Center Hill captured the lead just before halftime. Trent Martin scored on a 6-yard run with 47.3 seconds remaining, and Martin converted the two-point conversion himself to give the Mustangs an 11-9 advantage at the break.
The Mustangs dominated the third quarter. Ananias Guy extended the lead with a 12-yard touchdown run with 6:32 left. On their next possession, Martin broke free for a 77-yard touchdown run with 3:07 left in the quarter, pushing the score to 25-9.
Olive Branch scored a touchdown with 5:49 left in the game to pull within 25-15, but the two-point attempt failed.
Center Hill sealed the victory with 2:07 remaining when Gavin Shoup hit Devon Barkers for a 23-yard touchdown pass for the 32-15 final.
Next week, Center Hill travels to Saltillo (1-2), while Olive Branch hosts region-leading South Panola (3-0). The other Region 1-6A standings include Lake Cormorant (2-1) and Grenada (2-1).

NOTABLES: Friday’s victory for DeSoto Central returned the Odis McCord Trophy back to Central Parkway. The annual game between the two schools in Southaven was named for the late athletic director at Southaven High School…Hernando’s Cooper Lankford ran for 113 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers’ victory at Lewisburg. Patriot quarterback Kaysen Wiggins threw for 327 yards and a score, completing 18 of 31 passes with one interception…Tylen Matthews scored three rushing touchdowns in the Lake Cormorant 41-7 victory over Saltillo.
Lewisburg, DeSoto Central and Olive Branch swimmers were among those selected to compete in the first Mississippi Association Coaches All-Star Swim Meet on Nov. 15 at the Tupelo Aquatic Center. Swimmers were selected by their finish in the recent state meet. North swimmers are listed here:
