Hernando’s Fran Kelly named 7A Miss Basketball
Feb. 18, 2025-She was the best girls’ basketball player in DeSoto County this season and Tuesday was tabbed the top girls’ basketball player in Mississippi for the 7A division.
Hernando’s Fran Kelly was named the 7A Miss Basketball by the Mississippi High School Activities Association, Mississippi Association of Coaches, and CSpire.
A junior, Kelly has been among the top offensive threats in the state, averaging 27.5 points per game as she became the 1-7A Player of the Year.
“I’m very proud of Fran, nobody in this area deserves it more than her,” said Hernando coach Blake Jones. “She’s building a legacy at Hernando and a foundation that will last for a very long time.”
Kelly and her Hernando teammates are continuing to play in the 7A state playoffs, set to play next in the quarterfinals this week against defending state champion Tupelo.
Seven Miss Basketball and seven Mr. Basketball selections were announced on Tuesday.
All Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball winners will be recognized during the 2025 Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Big House Classic MHSAA State Championships at the Mississippi Coliseum (Feb. 24-March 1). Recipients will also be honored at a special awards luncheon in the MHSAA Conference Center on March 4.
