Herman, Hogan, named Coaches of the Year

Two DeSoto County coaches were named state Coaches of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.

They are Hernando boys’ soccer coach Mark Hogan and Lake Cormorant girls powerlifting coach Tom Herman.

Hogan coached the Tigers to the school’s first state championship in boys soccer in its first-ever finals appearance, taking the MHSAA 7A state title, defeating Northwest Rankin 2-0 in the state championship game.

Herman led the Lady Gators to their 6A championship. They were a team we highlighted ahead of their championship meet appearance.

Coaches of the Year will be recognized at a Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, July 11 at the Sheraton Refuge in Flowood.
