Friday sports: Weather halts games, delays others

Aug 30, 2024 – Friday’s storm system that went through DeSoto County caused havoc on the first night of the Mississippi high school football season.

Rain and lightning in the area forced two games into late starts. Lake Cormorant at Lewisburg didn’t state until after 8:30 p.m. and the Southaven at Center Hill contest didn’t kick off until almost 9 p.m.

The weather also caused a postponement and a cancelation. The Olive Branch at Evangelical Christian School matchup was canceled, and the Horn Lake at Southwind game was rescheduled until 11 a.m. Saturday morning and will now be played at Horn Lake High School.
