It’s been a pretty good week for DeSoto County and North Mississippi athletes competing in All-Star competitions.
The Mississippi Association of Coaches this week hosted another in its series of All-Star events for different sports contested in state high schools.
This week, the All-Star Games for soccer and volleyball were played. In each event, DeSoto County impacted the final result for the North.
In volleyball on Wednesday, July 10, the North took away a 3-0 sweep of the South (25-22, 26-24, 25-22). A good representation of the roster came from DeSoto County schools, and Lewisburg coach Amy Hendrichovsky joined Lafayette (Oxford) coach Taylor Elliott as coaches.
The DeSoto County players on the North roster were Reese McIntosh and Sydney Tague of DeSoto Central, Mary Catherine Coach of Hernando, Jania Rose and Ariana Woods of Lake Cormorant, Claire Smith, Hallie Wright and Allie-Kate Hall of Lewisburg. Jania Rose was named the game’s Most Valuable Player for the North.

The North also won the Boys’ Soccer All-Star Game by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday, July 9. Hernando’s Callaway Metzger scored the winning goal with less than a minute to go in the game, which gave him the Most Valuable Player award.
In addition to Metzger, Wilson Crain of Hernando, along with Henry Gaschk and Ben Ellis of Lewisburg, Edmilson Vilches of Southaven, Joseangel Solis of Center Hill, and Vaughn Stackhouse of DeSoto Central all were on the North roster.
