Yoakam kicks off BankPlus Amphitheater concert summer

The summer season at the BankPlus Amphitheater at Snowden Grove in Southaven is about to kick into high gear with Dwight Yoakam bringing The Cosmic Roundup & Rodeo Tour on May 30. The Mavericks and 49 Winchester will join Yoakam.

Yoakam has sold over 25 million albums worldwide, and he is a 21-time nominated, multiple GRAMMY Award winner. He has 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum albums, with five of those topping Billboard’s Country Albums chart, and another 14 landing in the Top 10.

Nearly 40 of Yoakam’s singles have charted on Billboard, with 14 peaking in the Top 10.

In 2016, Yoakam released his bluegrass album Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars…on Sugar Hill Records, produced by nine-time GRAMMY winner Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton), Jon Randall (songwriter of “Whiskey Lullaby”), and Yoakam himself. Featuring a band of bluegrass luminaries, this album boasts a collection of reinterpreted favorites from his catalog, and a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

In addition to his musical career, Yoakam is a formidable film and television actor who has appeared in over 40 feature films, including Sling Blade and Panic Room. In 2016, he recurred in David E. Kelley’s Amazon series, Goliath. He has also appeared in director Steven Soderbergh’s film Logan Lucky with Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig.

Yoakam is recognized for his distinctive tenor voice, his unique image, and his role in revitalizing traditional country music. He helped popularize the “Bakersfield sound” for a new generation and is credited with bridging the gap between rock and country audiences. His musical style incorporates a wide range of influences, including alternative country, neotraditional country, honky-tonk, and rock.

After Yoakam’s appearance at the BankPlus Amphitheater, the season continues the following Friday with Thomas Rhett: Better in Boots 2025 on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. The next weekend will have back-to-back shows with Kansas and 38 Special on Friday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m., followed the next night, Saturday, June 14, with Treaty Oak Revival at 8 p.m.

BankPlus Amphitheater is a cashless venue and a clear bag policy is in effect.
