Square Market canceled for June 24 over storm threat, organizers say
The market’s organizers canceled the Square Market scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, citing the threat of thunderstorms and rain, they said.
Organizers told vendors and patrons the decision was made partly because many vendors need a day or two to prepare. They said they did not want vendors to pick or bake items only to have nowhere to sell them.
Organizers acknowledged that summer weather in Mississippi can change quickly but said they made the call to avoid forcing vendors to discard perishable goods.
They said the market will return on July 1 with an America250 celebration. The event is scheduled for 3-7 p.m., organizers said.
