Trunk or treat events let children go car to car collecting candy from decorated vehicle trunks in a single, well-lit and supervised location. For many parents, it is a safer and easier option than going door to door, especially for younger children.
A Community Event Backed by Local Businesses
The Southaven Police Department has been preparing for this year’s event for weeks. In September, the department publicly thanked Sam’s Club for donations toward the Trunk or Treat, part of an ongoing partnership between local businesses and the department.
Events like this give residents a chance to meet officers in a relaxed setting, away from emergency calls and traffic stops. Community policing events also help children see officers as approachable neighbors.
Plan Your Halloween Weekend in DeSoto County
Sunday afternoon timing makes the Southaven event an easy fit before the busy final week of October. Families looking for more options can also mark their calendars for the Olive Branch Community Trunk-Or-Treat later that week.
A few tips for a smooth trunk or treat outing:
- Arrive early, since free community events often draw large crowds.
- Choose costumes that let children see clearly and walk safely.
- Check candy before children eat it, and watch for allergens.
- Keep a close eye on little ones in the busy parking lot.
Questions about the event can be directed to the Southaven Police Department through its website, southavenpolice.org, or its official Facebook page.
