Southaven to relocate police, fire training center in land-swap deal
Southaven will relocate its police and fire training center from Tulane Road to property on Swinnea Road under a contract with MZX Tech LLC, an affiliate of SpacexAI, Mayor Musselwhite said in a blog post on the city’s website.
The mayor said the agreement calls for a land swap that transfers ownership of a 51-acre city site in exchange for 69 acres surrounding an existing 20-acre parcel of city property and $40 million to construct new facilities.
Musselwhite described the arrangement as “an unprecedented private investment in public safety facilities for our city, county, state and possibly country,” according to the blog post.
He said the current center was functional but “not ideal” and that the new, more centralized site will improve training efficiency. Musselwhite said the funding will allow construction of “cutting-edge facilities” intended to elevate training, aid recruitment and strengthen Southaven’s police and fire departments for years to come.
