Southaven officials reviewed a balanced fiscal year 2027 budget presented by Finance Director Caleb Flowers ahead of a public hearing scheduled for Sept. 8, 2026. The Board of Aldermen also approved several items on the planning agenda, including a government transfer of a police van to the Town of Walls and four development proposals.
The approved projects include a request from MZX Tech to combine two parcels at Stanton west of Tulane, a design review for an industrial data storage warehouse with landscaping and fencing, a three-tenant retail building on the north side of Goodman Road west of Malone, and a new restaurant south of Silo Square.
During the mayor’s report, officials discussed Southaven’s partnership with SpaceXAI, noting the company is a leader in artificial intelligence in the U.S. The city is working with acoustical engineers to address noise concerns, while SpaceXAI prepares a public relations campaign to provide information about its data centers.
The city highlighted recent community events, including hosting its largest soccer tournament with 123 teams. Additionally, the Cherry Valley Park renovation is complete, featuring new football goalposts and scoreboards, a walking trail, pump track, skate park, updated playground equipment, newly painted buildings, and a repaved parking lot with fresh striping. Security measures such as gates, cameras, lighting, and fencing have been added to help prevent vandalism.
