Silo Square to welcome South Point Grocery

Sep 5, 2024- The Southaven mixed-use development Silo Square today announced it will soon have a grocery store as part of the development.
A lease agreement with independent grocery store owner and operator Castle Retail Group of Memphis has been reached that will lead to the addition of South Point Grocery.

Castle Retail Group owner/operator Rick James, who has been in the grocery business for 20 years, brings South Point Grocery to a location on Front Street in the Silo Square development. James’ lease agreement with Silo Square is for 20 years with three additional five-year renewals. Site work has already begun and construction is expected to commence this fall with an expected grand opening in mid-2025.

James’ company currently has High Point Grocery and a South Point Grocery in downtown Memphis. It also has three Cash Saver stores among his holdings. About 287 employees work in Castle Retail Group stores.

The Silo Square location will be the second South Point Grocery will be the second store under that particular name, James said.

“Our focus has been giving our customers a great in-store experience,” James said. “For us, that includes a clean store, with a focus on superior quality, fresh food, emphasis on full shelves, innovative variety and an interaction between customers and staff that changes grocery shopping from a chore to a pleasant part of the week.”

Silo Square developer Brian Hill stated that South Point Grocery brings the development another step closer to what he envisioned the 80-acre development to become.

“Our goal is for Silo Square to truly embody a “live, work, play” lifestyle,” Hill said. “South Point is not only the missing link to this goal, but brings a very unique, pleasant, and high-end feel to our community that we are ecstatic about.”

To date, Silo Square has completed approximately 250,000 square feet of rentable space including commercial and loft apartments.

In addition, out parcels throughout Silo Square are home to businesses, such as several restaurants, a bank, adult and pediatric dental and orthodontic practices, a nationally-branded hotel with a second hotel lot sold and on the horizon, and Southaven Police Department’s new East Precinct, which is set to open this fall. Approximately 150 of its 450 proposed single-family homes have been completed.
