Semi-truck loses control, blocks traffic overnight

Officials were still on the scene Monday morning on the clean up from an accident that took place Sunday evening near Olive Branch.

A semi-trailer truck ran off U.S. Highway 78/I-22 near the Red Banks Road exit about 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, resulting in its 53-foot trailer wrapping around several trees, officials said.

There was nothing hazardous inside the trailer but there were several rolls of paper.

One westbound lane of the highway was initially closed and then all westbound lanes of the highway were later closed with traffic being diverted to Red Banks Road.

Work was being done overnight to clear the roadway and remove the truck from the tree line, but the westbound lanes of U.S. 78 remain closed early Monday morning.

Officials said there were only minor injuries sustain the truck driver in the accident and no further information was immediately released.
